Dao Bao is the design practice of artist Elena Yu. She creates one-of-a-kind handwoven, sewn, crocheted, crafted clothing, accessories and custom home textiles.
"Dao" is the first character of Elena's Chinese name; Dao Jing ("the path to peace"). Following her paternal Chinese family's tradition of naming each generation after subsequent characters in a 50-character-long Chinese poem, Elena's generational character is "Dao" (the path). Dao is the 25th character in the poem and thus represents the 25th generation in her family to be named after the familial poem.
"Bao" is the word for Elena's childhood favorite steamed bun, and can also mean bag, wrap, hold, and cover.
